Old Navy Partners with Goodwill in Southwest Florida

PRLog (Press Release) – Sep 14, 2009 – Old Navy and Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida are giving customers a chance to clean out their closets to make room for new fall styles with an in-store donation event.  Old Navy customers bringing a gently-used clothing donation to the Coconut Point and Port Charlotte locations will receive a 10% off coupon for any purchase in that Old Navy store from Friday, September 11 to Thursday, September 24.  All donated clothing from the partnership will be sold in Goodwill® retail stores and the revenues will help fund Goodwill’s programs and services.

The Estero Old Navy is in the Coconut Point shopping center, at 8018 Mediterranean Drive.  The Port Charlotte Old Navy Store is located at 1441 Tamiami Trail

“It’s a win-win for everyone involved,” says Laura Alford, Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida’s Director of Donor Development.  “Donations have been slow this year because of the economy, so the Old Navy partnership will help boost donations and allow us to support our programs and services.  Their customers will also benefit from the 10% discount, and it’ll help drive more traffic to Old Navy, too.”

Goodwill sells gently-used items at its stores to support vocational training and placement services, along with housing, education, and other programs for people with disabilities and other disadvantages.  Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida serves residents of Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties.

Old Navy is a division of Gap Inc., a leading global specialty retailer offering clothing, accessories and personal care products for men, women, children and babies under the Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, Piperlime and Athleta brand names.

As part of the corporation’s social responsibility platform, Gap Inc. has adopted social and environmental initiatives, which include investment in local communities by applying business innovation to social challenges.

“Old Navy really encourages us to get involved in the community,” said Jaime Corzo, store manager of the Coconut Point Old Navy.  “Later this year, we’ll do another donation drive by collecting gently-used coats for a discount on a new one at our store.”

Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida, Inc. builds lives, families and communities—one job at a time by helping people with disabilities and other barriers to employment discover and develop their full potential.    More information about Goodwill is available at http://www.goodwillswfl.org.
