Emmaus Prepares for First Annual "Best In Bloom" Arts and Garden Festival

PRLog (Press Release) – May 31, 2009 – With all the talk about renewable resources these days, one town is buzzing with an indomitable energy that can’t be extinguished. The source of this energy is the first annual “Best In Bloom” Arts and Garden Festival when Emmaus will welcome 30-plus visual and performing artists. As the town gets ready for the two-weekend event, merchants and residents of Emmaus have joined forces to flood this quaint borough with colorful flora bursting from gardens and hanging baskets in vibrant seasonal shades. Reminiscent perhaps of a stroll through Monet’s Giverny, porches, gardens and alleys are adorned with blossoms and blooms that beckon visitors to stroll through the town with a latte from one of the coffee shops, or browse through one of its unique specialty stores.
Sponsored by the Shops of Emmaus, the town’s merchant organization, the Best In Bloom Festival will open with an Art and Wine Tasting exhibition on Thursday, June 11, at Stonewood Interiors, recently relocated to 173 Main Street. From 5 to 8 p.m., Danielle Desplan, New York City’s mixed media artist, will feature her textural masterpieces crafted of layers of paint and collaged fragments, handmade papers, bits from old letters and books, and 19th century calligraphy.
The Festival continues on Saturday and Sunday, June 13-14, when local and out-of-state artists will present a variety of media from watercolor, oil, acrylic and clay, to photography, quilts and soaps made from goat’s milk. Andrew Kish III from The Banana Factory, and poet-painter Robert Reidy from New York State are among those artists who will be featured and dispersed throughout the Triangle and along Main and Chestnut Streets between Keystone and 5th amid performing artists, food vendors, and entertainers.
On Saturday, June 20, arborists, horticulturalists, and outdoor experts will gather to offer clinics and presentations on organic gardening, edible landscapes, recycling, water gardening, and green architecture. Broadcasting from Herbein’s Michael McGrath, author and host of NPR’s “You Bet Your Garden”, will offer gardeners advice on caring for plants, fending off pests, wrestling with weeds, and dealing with disease. The festival will run from 10am to 3pm on both weekends and conclude with the Best In Bloom silent auction at the VFW.  For further information contact the Shops of Emmaus at www.shopsofemmaus.com
